A member of the Camel family, Alpacas have been around for over five millennia, enjoying a good life with the Incas and Peruvian people, before the Spanish Invasion.
Since then, they've gone from near-extinction to appreciation again, for their warm, soft lustrous and STRONG fiber. This yarn is very lightweight, and its hollow core makes for excellent insulation.
It's not a bad yarn for novices; you can rip out mistakes and still end up with a nice piece that doesn't look beat up. So go for it.
